India’s government extended the Immigration, Visa, Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT) scheme from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2031, allocating ₹18 billion to it. The programme integrates immigration, visa issuance and foreigner registration, while the government says it has enabled contactless visa processing and automated immigration clearance at major airports.
According to the source, India is maintaining and expanding an integrated digital infrastructure for visas, entry procedures and foreigner registration for another five years. For people planning a move, this means continued use of online appointments, payments and digital visa processing, alongside biometric checks and automated airport gates. It primarily affects foreigners who need an Indian visa or registration, while Indian nationals and OCI cardholders can access the Trusted Traveller enrolment programme free of charge. The extension does not itself change the conditions of a particular visa category, but it is relevant when planning applications and border clearance.
