Hong Kong updates entry and transit requirements from 1 October 2026

Published: 22.09.2026

Foreign nationals need an appropriate visa or entry permit to work, study, conduct business or reside in Hong Kong. Visit visa waivers depend on nationality and travel document: some countries receive visa-free stays, while nationals of other countries always need a visa; travellers must also hold valid documents and sufficient funds.

According to the sources, the official aviation information effective from 1 October 2026 sets out the applicable entry, transit and travel-document requirements. For relocation purposes, visa-free entry cannot substitute for a work, study or residence visa, and the appropriate permission should be obtained before travel. The rules are particularly important for nationals listed as always requiring a visa and for anyone transiting through Hong Kong. Prospective movers should check the rules for their nationality and intended purpose before booking travel.
