Denmark tightens residence access for Ukrainian men of mobilisation age

Published: 28.08.2026

Amendments to Denmark’s special law make it harder for Ukrainian men roughly aged 23 to 60 who are subject to Ukraine’s mobilisation rules to obtain or extend residence permits. Applicants must document that they have fulfilled their military obligations or are exempt; the measure applies to applications submitted after 25 June 2026.

According to sources, Ukrainian men in the relevant age group now face an additional documentary requirement when applying for or extending residence in Denmark. This directly affects the documents needed and access to continued residence, potentially changing relocation plans or the continuity of an existing status. The measure primarily concerns Ukrainian men aged 23–60 arriving under the special law or seeking an extension. Applicants in this group should account for the rule before filing and prepare the required proof of military-service status.
