Czechia Recognizes Only Biometric Russian Passports for Entry

Published: 21.07.2026

Since 3 July 2024, Czechia has recognized only biometric passports issued by the Russian Federation. Exceptions apply to children under 15 and participants in certain specified events.

The requirement primarily affects Russian citizens seeking to enter Czechia or obtain travel-related documents. A non-biometric Russian passport may prevent travel even where another entry basis exists, so applicants should verify the passport type before applying and arranging their route. The measure is an ongoing restriction concerning Russian documents rather than a general residence-permit rule. It is a significant preliminary document check for people relocating for work, study or family reasons.
