Third-country nationals holding a Czech long-term residence permit for studies who wish to remain for another purpose must apply for a new residence permit to the Czech Ministry of the Interior. Holders of qualifying study documents issued by another EU country may, in certain cases, stay in Czechia without a separate visa or permit for up to 360–365 days.
The source clarifies that completing the study purpose does not automatically allow a person to remain under a different status: a new application is required, and holders of a Czech long-term study visa must apply through a Czech embassy abroad. This can affect the timing of a transition to employment or business and requires advance document planning. A separate arrangement applies to participants in qualifying programmes with study documents issued by another EU country, but it is limited to 360–365 days. The information is especially relevant to students who intend to stay in Czechia after their studies.
