Czechia maintains visa and residence restrictions for Russian and Belarusian nationals

Published: 29.05.2026

Since 22 October 2022, Czech diplomatic missions abroad have generally not issued Russian and Belarusian nationals most types of visas and residence permits. Exceptions include certain humanitarian cases and visits by family members of residents; people who were already living in Czechia before that date may apply in the country on legal grounds provided by law.

According to the source, Russian and Belarusian nationals continue to face substantially restricted access to most Czech visa and residence-permit routes through diplomatic missions abroad. This means that a standard plan to obtain a visa or residence permit from the country of citizenship may be unavailable, with eligibility depending on a specific exception or an existing status in Czechia. The restriction primarily affects new applicants from Russia and Belarus, while current residents and some family members have separate options. This deserves priority attention because applicants should establish that their purpose falls within an eligible category before preparing a relocation application.
