On 26 August, Cyprus organised its first operation to forcibly return third-country nationals with the participation of Frontex, Greece and Bulgaria. The authorities have also accelerated application processing and increased voluntary and forced returns; 6,027 migrants left Cyprus between 1 January and 26 August 2026.
According to the source, Cyprus is steadily tightening its approach to people who have no right to remain while processing asylum applications more quickly. For irregular migrants and asylum seekers, this means faster decisions and a greater likelihood of return after a rejected claim. The development does not directly change ordinary work, study or family relocation procedures, but it makes lawful entry and residence especially important. Asylum seekers and their families should pay the closest attention.
