EEA and Swiss nationals may stay in Croatia for up to three months and must register temporary residence for a longer stay. Third-country nationals have access to short-term stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, temporary residence, long-term residence and permanent residence, with routes including work, study, family reunification and digital nomad stays.
According to EURES, the required procedure depends mainly on nationality and the purpose of stay. A long-term move requires residence registration or a temporary residence permit, while five years of uninterrupted legal residence may lead to eligibility for permanent residence. Foreign nationals also need a Croatian OIB identification number for dealing with institutions, making payments, working and opening a bank account. This is essential pre-move information for third-country nationals, workers, students and digital nomads.
