China introduces new entry and exit rules from September 15, 2026

Published: 19.08.2026

A new regulation strengthens verification of travel purposes and the accuracy of documents for Chinese citizens and foreigners applying for visas, entry, temporary residence or permanent residence. Foreign nationals may be denied entry for false information, migration-related violations or inclusion on restrictive lists under Chinese law; immigration intermediaries must register and may not facilitate documents through fraud.

From September 15, 2026, foreigners applying for a Chinese visa, entry, temporary stay or residence will have to provide accurate information and cooperate with identity and purpose-of-travel checks. For people relocating, this makes document accuracy and consistency between the declared purpose and actual circumstances more important, as violations may lead to entry denial. Restrictions also apply to foreign nationals placed on Chinese countermeasure or other legally established restrictive lists. According to the sources, the regulation also targets immigration intermediaries, so applicants should pay closer attention to the agency used and the materials submitted; the change is relevant to anyone planning a move to China or seeking to extend their status.
