China to introduce new entry and exit rules on September 15, 2026

Published: 19.08.2026

A new regulation strengthens verification of travel purposes and the accuracy of documents for Chinese citizens and foreigners applying for visas, entry, temporary residence or permanent residence. Foreign nationals may be denied entry for false information, migration-related violations or inclusion on Chinese restrictive lists, while immigration intermediaries will be subject to mandatory registration.

From September 15, 2026, applicants for Chinese visas, entry, or residence will face stronger checks of their identity, documents, and stated purpose of travel; entry can be refused for false documents and certain migration violations. For people planning to relocate, accurate paperwork and consistency between the declared purpose and the actual stay will become more important. The rules also affect foreigners covered by Chinese countermeasure or other restrictive lists, which is particularly relevant for people with potential sanctions or technology-related exposure. According to the sources, immigration intermediaries must register and may not help clients obtain visas or residence documents improperly. The change is worth noting for all applicants for long-term entry or residence and for anyone relying on migration agents.
