Applicants for a Confirmation of Permanent Residence must provide documents based on their visa status and place of residence. Applicants outside Canada who require a visa must submit a passport or travel document containing a PR visa; diplomatic, official and military passports are not accepted for this purpose.
According to the official source, the document package for confirming permanent residence depends on whether the applicant is in Canada and whether a visa is required. Using an unacceptable passport type or omitting required documents can prevent issuance of the confirmation or PR visa. This is particularly important for approved permanent-residence applicants and accompanying family members, since the principal applicant must first obtain status before a family member can travel to Canada to become a permanent resident. Applicants should check their documents against the current IRCC requirements before travelling.
