Armenia Maintains Visa-Free Regimes and Work-Permit Exemptions for Certain Foreigners

Published: 13.04.2026

Citizens of certain countries, mainly from the former USSR, do not need a visa to enter Armenia and may stay visa-free for up to 180 days in a calendar year. Other foreigners may receive visas for stays of up to 120 days, with a possible extension of up to 60 days. Certain groups, including holders of permanent or special residence status and some students and family members, are exempt from work-permit requirements.

For nationals covered by a visa-free regime, the framework allows long stays without arranging a visa in advance, while other foreigners must plan around the visa period and possible extension. For long-term work, the right to work depends not only on residence status but also on whether the person qualifies for an exemption from a work permit; sources cite permanent or special residence, study, and certain family-based grounds. This primarily affects non-residents, workers, and students planning a longer relocation to Armenia. It is worth checking before moving, particularly when employment is planned rather than temporary residence alone.
