Armenia Proposes Updating Automatic Financial-Account Reporting Rules

Published: 19.05.2026

A bill submitted to Armenia’s National Assembly would clarify the rules for automatic exchange of financial-account information and transfer oversight to the tax authority. It would require annual electronic reporting by financial institutions and introduce new penalties, including for account holders and controlling persons who fail to provide required self-identification information.

According to the source, Armenia is proposing to align its financial-account reporting rules with international tax-transparency standards after conducting its first automatic exchange of information in September 2025. For people relocating to Armenia, this points to more formal scrutiny of bank accounts and tax status, particularly where Armenian accounts or cross-border financial links are involved. The draft would require banks to report annually, retain records for at least five years and impose penalties on account holders and controlling persons; the penalty provisions are proposed to take effect on 1 January 2027. The proposal is worth monitoring for non-residents, new tax residents and account holders who need to complete bank self-identification accurately.
