Since 1 January 2026, citizenship applications based on Armenian ancestry have been submitted through mcs-citizenship.am, followed by one in-person visit to provide original documents. This route does not require prior residence, living in Armenia or renouncing current citizenship; the state fee is AMD 50,000.
According to the source, diaspora applicants now have a dedicated online filing process, although citizenship is ultimately granted by presidential decree. Applicants must document Armenian ancestry, while foreign documents need apostille or consular legalization and Armenian translation. The route is particularly relevant to ethnic Armenians seeking a long-term legal connection with Armenia without relocating first. Other prospective migrants should note that it does not replace the ordinary residence or naturalization routes.
