Armenia Prepares Migration-System Reform

Published: 23.10.2026

As part of the draft migration strategy, Armenia is discussing reforms to migration management, including changes to entry, visa, and residence regimes. The plans also include digitizing migration systems, strengthening border control, and amending the citizenship law.

According to the sources, Armenia is moving toward a more centralized and digital migration-management model amid rising numbers of foreigners, residence applications, and stay-legalization cases. In the longer term, the reform could affect entry, visa, temporary-residence, permanent-residence, and citizenship requirements, while increasing the role of electronic systems and border checks. Foreign nationals planning a long-term stay, residence status, or citizenship should monitor the process first. It is worth considering for long-term relocation planning, but the discussion itself does not yet establish new rules.
