Argentina expands grounds to deny entry and cancel residence

Published: 30.07.2026

Decree 681/2026 amends Argentina’s Migration Law by adding messages inciting hatred or violence against Argentines and insults to national symbols as grounds to deny entry or residence. Residence cancellation on these grounds may lead to an order to leave or expulsion; legitimate political, academic, and civic criticism is expressly excluded.

According to sources, these grounds apply from 31 July 2026 to foreigners both outside Argentina and already in the country. For people planning a move, this creates an additional legal risk at entry and when maintaining status, particularly where public conduct could be classified as incitement to hatred, calls for violence, or insults to national symbols. Ordinary political or academic criticism is expressly excluded from the rule. The change is worth noting for all applicants for entry or residence and for current foreign residents.
