Argentina intensifies checks on foreigners and enforcement of expulsion orders

Published: 18.09.2026

Argentina’s Ministry of National Security said that immigration checks have been strengthened since February at borders, airports and inside the country. More than 20,000 foreigners have reportedly been expelled, refused entry or denied admission for failing to meet entry or stay requirements.

According to sources, enforcement now covers not only entry points but also the country’s interior, with migration authorities and federal forces sharing information. For people planning a move, this increases the importance of valid documents, a lawful basis for stay and compliance with entry conditions, since violations may result in refused entry or enforcement of an expulsion order. The development primarily affects foreigners with irregular status, documentation problems or outstanding expulsion measures. It is worth reviewing one’s documents and immigration status before travelling to or remaining in Argentina.
