Rentista and pensionado routes require income of at least five minimum wages

Published: 20.09.2026

Current descriptions of the migration routes state that applicants for rentista or pensionado residence must prove regular income of at least five minimum wages. For rentista applicants, the income must derive from assets such as financial instruments, property or company stakes; both statuses are generally issued for one year and may be extended.

The passive-income and pension routes remain available, but their financial threshold is linked to the minimum wage and may change as that benchmark changes. For rentista applicants, ordinary employment income is not enough: sources tie the requirement to asset-derived income and regular payments. This affects the bank statements and proof-of-funds documents that must be prepared before applying. New applicants should verify that their income meets the current minimum-wage multiple and document its regularity in advance.
